Women’s X-Country Finishes Second, Men Sixth
By Teresa Collins

Last Saturday, the men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the NCAC Championship Meet, where the men finished sixth and the women finished second.
“We gave ourselves the chance to do as well as we could,” head coach Jason Hudson said. “Training all year has been focused on this meet.”
But the team’s season is not over. With one more meet left, both teams look to build off of Saturday’s performance.
“It was a perfect running day,” first-year Adam Morse said. “Everybody surprised themselves with how fast they ran.”
“Everyone gave one hundred percent,” Hudson said
Junior Adam Greeney finished first for the Oberlin men, with a time of 26:12, which put him in 11th place overall. Junior Alex Scally was next to finish on the team in 19th place, running a time of 26:46. Senior Michael Severino, with a time of 27:24, finished 27th overall and third on the team.
“Benjamin Stanley and Michael Pennino were also key runners,” Hudson said. “They were the fourth and fifth finishers for the team.”
Seniors Laura Feeney and Lori Tuchfeld and junior Julia Goeke all finished in the top 10 runners for the meet. Feeney ran 18:55, which put her in fourth place. Tuchfeld was not far behind as she finished in fifth place with a time of 18:59. Goeke finished with 19:20 and came in 10th place.
“The star of the meet was Shannon Morris,” Hudson said. “She usually finishes sixth on the team, but she stepped up and finished fourth.”
For the women, second place was the highest Oberlin College had finished since the meet was won in 1984.
“The women have a chance to qualify, possibly, two runners for the national meet,” Hudson said. “Lori Tuchfeld is in an especially elite group. She’s been an All-Conference runner all four years.”
Many of the cross country runners set personal records for themselves. Ten out of the 11 runners on the women’s team ran the fastest times they have run all year. Nine out of the 10 men ran all-time personal records and the fastest times all year.
“Thanks to all of the people who came out and supported us,” senior Alice Cheong said. “Many alumni and friends showed up and that was really encouraging.”
Both men’s and women’s cross country have one more meet left at Ohio Northern University on Sat., Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. This meet will be the last chance the teams have to qualify for the national meet hosted by St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.
