Current use gifts, usually made as donations of cash or securities, are expended to meet current resource needs.  They may be used to purchase materials of various types in all subject areas of the libraries’ collecting interests.  Such gifts may be restricted to specific subjects or specific kinds of resources (books, journals, databases, scores, recordings, videos, etc.).  Most membership contributions received by the Friends of the Library are allocated to current use purchases.

Recent current use gifts have been used to purchase a superb artists’ book based on the envelope poems of Emily Dickinson, an original underground samizdat publication circulated during the 1960s in the Soviet Union, a back file of the scientific journal Nature, and the Patrologia Latina Database, an online resource containing the most influential works of late ancient and early medieval theology, philosophy, history, and literature.
